J. Ivester Lloyd

John Ivester Lloyd was the son of artist Thomas Ivester Lloyd. He was an author of both fiction and non-fiction books. He seems to have been particularly interested in hunting and most of his books have a hunting theme (either the horse or hound side of things). Probably not surprising considering his father was a noted sporting artist and Master of a beagle pack. Animals were at the centre of his children's stories. He also wrote some riding manual type books for children.

Mr. Lloyd was lucky in having three great artists illustrating his books, including his father T. Ivester Lloyd, Stanley Lloyd and Peter Biegel. From my experience of the books, the illustrations are the high point.

Horse & Pony Books:

From then on Joey becomes an expert mount throughout the many varied hunts he attends.
PONYMAD VIEW: For hunting-obsessed readers only as there is very little in the way of plot or character development. High points are the illustrations and the evocative descriptions of the countryside pursuits of that era. Read full review for more.

COME ON YOUNG RIDERS
FIRST EDITION MOSS BROS DATE UNKNOWN

Paperback original.
There appear to be two different editions with different covers but as neither are dated it's impossible to work out which one came first or indeed if they both came out together.
EDITIONS PICTURED:  Both variations.
SUMMARY: Another short pony tale which was written especially for Moss Bros to advertise their riding clothes.

Collectors info:
Adventure of Young Riders and Come on Young Riders were paperback originals and are more of an advertising gimmick than pony books as they were written for Mos Bros to showcase their range of riding clothes! However the lovely illustrations make them collectable and they are not  too hard to find. Johnny Rides Out is fairly rare, all the other books can be found quite easily in the UK, although are rarer and can be pricey elsewhere. As far as I am aware only one of the titles was published in the USA.
